Proto-Tai and Kra-Dai finals *-l and *-c
Main Article Content
Abstract
Two proto-endings *-l and *-c are reconstructed and added to the received system of Proto-Tai final consonants. These additional finals help solve some problems of the otherwise irregular correspondences among dialects, especially between Saek and other Tai varieties. Supporting evidence for these newlyreconstructed sounds can be found not only in Tai but also in related language groups such as Kra, Hlai and Be. The proposed system is shown to be valid for Proto-Kra-Dai as well.
