Abstract

Background and Aims: Sustainable urban development is crucial for the quality of life of the population and the environment. One of the significant approaches is the implementation of the Zero Waste policy in the urban development process. This policy is a city development strategy that creates an efficient waste management system and utilizes resources effectively. It helps mitigate pollution and environmental impacts, and provides opportunities for efficient resource management, leading to quality, sustainable, and environmentally balanced urban growth. This study aims to review the concepts, present examples of Zero Waste policy implementation in foreign countries and Thailand, and offer approaches to applying this policy in urban development in Thailand.

Methodology: This study employs the collection and synthesis of academic data through a literature review process from relevant sources. The data is then extracted, synthesized, and compiled into an article.

Results: From the study, it has been found that Zero Waste is a concept and policy that aims to use resources efficiently and reduce the unnecessary generation of waste at every stage. This will help manage resources, mitigate pollution and contaminants, and promote quality and sustainable cities. The implementation of this policy in urban development will contribute to long-term sustainable and high-quality urban growth without compromising the environment and quality of life. However, it requires collaboration from all sectors, including private entities, the government, and raising public awareness.

Conclusion: The zero waste management policy is a strategy that emphasizes prevention of waste generation from the source, promotes efficient and sustainable resource utilization, and supports the development of a circular economy. This approach will enable cities to achieve sustainable development. However, the success of this policy relies on cooperation from all sectors of society, including changing public attitudes and behaviors, developing infrastructure and waste management systems, and implementing appropriate supportive policies and measures.
