Abstract

This study aims to: (1) examine the needs of the tourism and hotel industry regarding the integration of work-integrated education (CWIE) and (2) develop guidelines for implementing CWIE in this sector. The methodology used qualitative research approach, this study gathers insights from key informants, including hotel executives, government officials, private sector representatives, academics, and students. Data were collected through interviews and analyzed using content analysis. The findings reveal that the tourism and hotel industry requires graduates to possess essential workplace competencies, including interpersonal communication, customer service management, task coordination, and problem-solving in complex situations. Notably, the ability to work under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing environments is highly valued. The study further highlights that an effective CWIE program should establish a strong connection between theoretical learning and practical application. Key components such as internships, industry-focused seminars, and collaborative projects with tourism and hospitality enterprises are critical in bridging this gap. Moreover, curriculum development should prioritize industry-specific competencies, emphasizing communication, real-world problem-solving, and teamwork. Additionally, the research underscores the importance of fostering strong collaboration between educational institutions and industry stakeholders to design curricula that align with labor market demands. Strengthening this partnership is essential for ensuring that CWIE programs effectively prepare graduates for careers in the tourism and hospitality industry.
