Oral Literature about Wat Sing in Bang Khu Wieng Bang Kruai Nonthaburi

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to: 1) analyzed the content of oral literature about Wat Sing Bang Khu Wieng Sub-district, Bang Kruai District, Nonthaburi Province 2) Analyzed the value of oral literature about Wat Sing. The target group was divided into 2 groups. The first group was the informants who were the abbot of Wat Sing and the former community leaders who had a domicile and lived near Wat Sing more than 60 years. The second group consisted of 6 community members aged more than 60 years old and knew about Wat Sing, which were selected by Snowball Sampling Technique. The instrument used in this study was an in-depth interview. The results revealed that 1) There were 3 types of oral literature about Wat Sing which are 1) 4 stories of knowledge, 2) 3 beliefs, and 3) 4 traditions and practices. The Values of oral literature were 1) give knowledge about the history and importance of temples in the past 2) the value of influence on beliefs preservation of ancient monuments, artifacts and 3) emotional values was to be the center of the pride of the villagers.
