Problems of English instructional management and needs on communication skills development in the 21st century of students in a private university in Bangkok

Abstract
The objectives of this research were to study the problems of English instructional management and needs to develop English communication skills in the 21st century of Rattana Bundit University students. It was survey research. The sample consisted of 364 students. The instrument used for collecting data was a questionnaire – the 6 levels of rating scale. The data were analyzed with the SPSS program to investigate the frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The data analysis was done by using the SPSS program to find the frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation and analyze the standard deviation difference by one-way ANOVA. The result of this research revealed that the problems of English instructional management for communication in Rattana Bundit University according to the student’s opinion were divided into five domains which were curriculum, instructor, teaching method and activities, evaluation, and learner domains. Problems, in general, were at a moderate level. When considering by aspect, it was found that the students contributed the most problems and the teachers were the least domain creating problems. The needs for communication skills development in the 21st century of students at Rattana Bundit University were at a high level in general. The needed skills were divided into 5 five skills: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and communication skills. When considering by aspect, it was found that the communication skill was needed the most and the need to develop writing skill was minimal.
