We Travel Together: Shared Experiences of Family Tourist with Various Ages

Abstract

      This qualitative research aimed to explore the shared experiences of family tourist of various ages and to examine guidelines for developing tourist attractions that related with family tourist experiences. The data was collected from 36 tourists, consisting of grandparents, parents, and children (childhood–adolescence), who had travelled with their families using in-depth interviews. The data sampling was criterion sampling. A thematic method was used for data analysis. The study found that: 1. The characteristics of shared tourism experiences of family tourist of various ages included 3 components: 1) relaxation; 2) escaping the routine life; and 3) strengthening family relationships. 2. The guidelines for developing tourist attractions to meet the needs of family tourists consisted of 3 aspects: 1)various tourism activities, 2)providing rest areas, and 3)creating green spaces. The result of this research is information for various organizations, entrepreneurs, and the public to be concerned with tourist attractions, which have important roles in creating valuable experiences for family tourists.
