Components of Digital Citizenship Competency for the Student Teachers

Abstract

     This research aimed to study the components and evaluate the suitability of the digital citizenship competencies for student teacher in presenting the concept of the components of digital citizenship competence for student teacher in order to inform the institute of production and developing teacher profession to realize the components of digital citizenship competency for student teachers and use this components as a guideline developing and evaluating the teacher professional competency and preparing the student teachers to be ready to work as government teachers and educational staff in the Office of  the Basic Education Commission and utilizing in the study of the development of student teachers in the aspect of developing digital citizenship competencies which is currently one of the most vital competencies in the world. The target group used in this research divided into 2 groups consisted of 7 experts for in-depth interviewing, and 5 experts for suitability assessing. The research instrument comprised of the semi-structure interview form and suitability evaluating form. The statistics used in the research were mean, standard deviation, and contents analysis. The results of the research found that there were 3 components of digital citizenship competencies for student teachers including 1) Knowledge which consisted of 1.1) the use of digital information technology, 1.2) language for digital communication, 1.3) digital law and related; 2) skills divided into 2.1) digital information technology using skills, 2.2) language and digital communication skills, 2.3) innovation and digital information creativity, and 2.4) digital social skills and creative collaboration; and 3) Characteristics and attitudes consisted of 3.1) compliance with digital laws and digital ethics, 3.2) preservation of the digital identity of student teachers, and 3.3) participation in activities on digital social media used to create positive social transformation. And the results of suitability assessment of components of digital citizenship competency of student teachers was at the highest level (mean=4.72 and the standard deviation=0.45).
