A Process Study for the Excellence of the National Military Band

Abstract
This research aimed to study the problem of the rehearsal process of the national military band that won the first place of the national award and analyze the performance rehearsal process of the national award-winning military band. The data was collected by interviewing the marching band expert and National Award-winning marching band practitioners from 6 school. The methodology of this research was qualitative research. The contents were analyzed, summarized, synthesized and presented using descriptive method. The research results found that problems in the practicing process of the military band that won the national award consisted of 6 issues; 1) Students did not have the same practical time. 2) Students had different basic knowledge which caused a few students could not follow the performance. 3) The student did not perform the song as it was listed. 4) The quality of contest songs performance was not quality. 5) The articulation performance was not completed which caused the music lacking melodiousness. 6)The budget was not enough. The process of performance rehearsal of the national award-winning military band was from the analysis and classification of the judges’ criterion and found that there were 7 steps of rehearsal process; 1) Practice the band to have a good sound quality. 2) Practice the band ensemble for a balanced and harmonious sound. 3) Choose the suitable exercises for the songs. 4) Selection of songs for the contest. 5) Practice to form a band according to the musical symbol in each song for quality. 6) Sorting the steps of practicing the songs. 7) The pattern of rehearsal.
