Development of Body Percussion Learning Activities for Elementary to Promote Percussion Basic Skills Using Thai Songs

Abstract

       This research aims to develop body percussion learning activities for elementary to promote percussion basic skills with performing Thai songs. This project develops five stages of methodologies: 1) to review the documents and the concepts; 2) to explore the need of activities; 3) to interview the specialists; 4) to develop activities; and 5) to assure the quality of activities. The sample groups are included: 1) thirty music teachers who are familiar with body percussion; 2) four percussion specialists; and 3) three music for children activity’s specialists. Research methodology were comprised of survey forms for the need of using music activities for teacher and interview forms. The results indicated that musical teachers shown their interest to integrate body percussion learning activities in music lesson. Such musical type not only represents Thai art and Thai culture but is also easy for musical learners. However, there is still lacked of knowledge, teaching materials, and concrete examples of repertoires or obvious activities. The researcher also develops activities fulfilling needs of leaners that are included four elements: 1) guideline for developing a long-term teaching program; 2) Lesson plan for each class; 3) musical contents, which are consisted of melodic pattern and rhythmic pattern, and basic percussion skills, which are included musical contents with sticking and single stroke notes; and 4) Thai songs that have been newly arranged in accordance to the leaners’ developments. The developed assessments have been evaluated ‘very good’ by the experts.
