The Development of Nursing Practice Ethics Indicators of Nursing Students

Abstract

The purposes of this research were: 1) to develop indicators of ethical nursing practice, 2) to test goodness of fit of the developed structural equation model of ethical nursing practice indicators with the empirical data 3) to develop the handbook of ethical nursing practice indicators for nursing students. A sample was 500 nursing instructors and preceptors. The multi-stage sampling was conducted. The instrument used was a five-level rating scale questionnaire. Data were analyzed by a statistical modeling program of confirmatory factor analysis through LISREL Program.


The finding were as follows: 1) The indicators of ethical nursing practice for nursing students consisted of six main elements, 18 sub-elements and 60 indicators, which were divided into 9 indicators of honesty, 9 indicators of responsibility, 9 indicators of discipline, and 13 indicators of respect for human rights, 10 indicators of ethics decision and 10 indicators of attitude toward nursing practice. 2) The goodness of fit of the developed structural equation model of ethical nursing practice indicators showed its consistency with the empirical data by having c2=195.84, df =284, p-value =.66, GFI =.95, AGFI = 0.91 RMSEA =0.000 , statistical analysis results thus confirmed the research hypotheses. 3) The handbook of ethical nursing practice indicator as a whole were appropriate at the highest level. (=4.56 , S.D.=0.09)
