The Development of Religious Attributes in Tourist Attractions for Muslim Tourists

Abstract

       The research objectives were to study Muslim tourists’ behaviours and to examine religious elements presenting in tourist destinations that were considerably important to Muslim tourists. The quantitative research design applying a questionnaire survey asking questions with 400 Muslim tourists, who visited Thailand. Statistical analysis was employed as a technique to analyze tourists’behaviours and to examine analytical factors using to identify religious elements in tourism.Research findings suggested that Muslim tourists visiting Thailand for their relaxation. They mostly spent 3-4 days travelling with friends, stayed at 3 star hotel. Attractive factors influencing the Muslim tourists in choosing Thailand a travelling destination were Thai food, history and culture. In terms of religious elements were consisted of five elements: : halal-friendly environment, halal hotel, halal food, halal food preparation and washroom facilities. This research findings can be applied as a guideline for tourism stakeholders to improve Thailand’s halal tourism destinations for competing to the global market.
