Development of Activity Package to Promote Self-Determination and Career Decision Making for Transition to Work in Upper Secondary Students with Learning Disabilities

Abstract
The research aimed to develop and analyze the effects of using the activity package to promote self-determination and career decision making for transition to work in upper secondary students with learning disabilities. The sample consisted of 3 groups: 1) 3 upper secondary students with learning disabilities; 2) three teachers who worked with selected students; and 3) three guardians of the selected students. Data collection was conducted in two phrases: Phrase 1 involved the development of the activity package, and Phrase 2 involved the implementation of the activity package. The research instruments included self-determination needs assessment, career decision scale (CDS), and interview form to gather user feedback. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis.
The results revealed that: 1) the developed activity package consisted of 7 activities, each consisting of 5 steps; 2) the activity package promoted students' self-awareness and significantly improved their self-determination, enabling them to make independent career decisions; 3) students were able to identify career interests with logical reasoning and showed improved ability in setting structured short-term and long-term career plans; and 4) all three stakeholder groups — students, teachers, and guardians — agreed that the activity package was suitable for the students with learning disabilities and could be adapted for broader applications.
