Situational Test : Applied to Measure Charaterlistics

Abstract

Charaterlistics are behaviors related to morality and ethics that essential aspects in education. There are several methods for measuring learners charaterlistics. The best method is the observation of students' behavior several times and several situations. However, the method of measuring the large number of learners (large scale measurement) at the provincial level and at the national level with limitations in data collection time, therefore it is a trend measurement of charaterlistics behavior. Situational Test is a test in which stories of moral and ethical issues encourage respondents to express their feelings clearly. by writing an answer or choosing an answer from the given options Situational testing requires an explanation that emphasizes that no right answer and wrong answer according to their true feelings. Writing the situation used as moral and ethical problems in which the people in a situation act in favor of or contradict each other. There are three approaches for writing choices: Approach 1, Two directional charaterlistics: that is suitable for measuring with young children to measure whether students are charaterlistics or not, the 0-1 scoring system. Approach 2 is based on the affective development, that Krathwohl et al’s concept and approach 3 is based on the ethical reasoning of Köhlberg's concept.The scoring system according to approachs 2 and 3 that are no right or wrong answer, multivalued model where each option such as 4, 3, 2, 1 represents the developmental value of the character/ethics.
