Knowledge and Behavior Towards Medical Masks Management of Baan-Nong-Pai-Khad Community, Nakhon Pathom Province, Among Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1) to study knowledge about infectious waste and infectious waste management, and (2) to study behavior towards medical masks management of Baan-Nong-Pai-Khad community, Nakhon Pathom province. 184 household questionnaires were collected. In general, most of them (100%) were female (58.78%), marital status (65.54%), over 51 years of age (43.24%), holding elementary education/lower (35.14%), trading / personal business (27.03%), belonging to household of 4-5 people (58.11%) and average income 10,001-20,000 baht per month (42.57%). All of 148 households used medical mask (100%), most of them used medical mask together with a cloth mask (76.35%), used it everyday (68.92%), average 1-3 pieces per week (49.32%), reused the same item 1-2 times (48.65%), each time of use 1-2 hours per time average, (27.7%). This study showed that the most of them (79.73%) had high knowledge level about infectious waste, just only 8.11 % in the low.  Overall behavior of medical mask management was good. The questions that is the highest percentage was “dispose of the used medical mask by self-burning method”. The questions that is the lowest percentage was “always wash your hands after collecting the used medical masks.”
