Abstract

The purposes of this research were: 1) to identify the components of effective team building, 2) to verify the consistency of the structural model with empirical data, and 3) to develop effective team building indicators. The study was a mixed-methods study conducted in three phases. The first phase was determining the conceptual framework and drafting the indicator using an intensive review of relevant documents, research analysis, interviews with five experts, and a focus group of nine experts. The second phase was examining research hypotheses with empirical data. Data was collected from 676 participants of school administrators and the heads of academic affairs in educational opportunity expansion schools under Primary Educational Service Area Offices in the northeast. They were selected using multi-stage sampling. The third phase was the preparation of the indicator usage manual. There were five experts evaluating the suitability of the manual. The research instruments were of four types: 1) an interview form, 2) an expert group discussion recording form, 3) a 5-level rating scale questionnaire, and 4) a form for evaluating the suitability of an indicator user manual. The data was analyzed using content analysis. Consensus of the expert group, confirmatory factor analysis, and analyzing the appropriateness of the manual.

The finding indicated that: 1) components of building an effective team: there are 6 main elements, 27 sub-elements, and 126 indicators. 2) Indicator structure model consistent with empirical data (c2 =29.93, df=31, p-value = 0.52, c2/df = 0.96, GFI = 1.00, AGFI = 0.96, RMSEA = 0.000). 3) A manual for using indicators for building effective teams was appropriated at a high level. The research result found that the school administrator and the heads of academic affairs in educational opportunity expansion school have focused on the main components of effective communication first. Should be used as a guideline for the development of training courses and building an effective team.
