TOURISM POTENTIAL OF KHORAT GEOPARK AS A WORLD HERITAGE TOURISM SITE IN THAILAND

This research article aims to study the components and potential of the tourist attractions within the Khorat Geopark. It employs qualitative research methods, starting with a review of secondary data sources related to the tourism resources of the Khorat Geopark. Subsequently, the researcher conducted field studies, observing the research area and utilizing tools to assess the potential of tourism resources. The researcher referenced tourism resource checklists, concepts of tourism potential evaluation, and the "10As" tourism product components framework to develop the assessment tools and establish the research framework. For data collection, a semi-structured interview format was employed. In-depth interviews were conducted with 16 key informants, including representatives from government agencies, the private sector, academics, and local community members. The participants were selected using purposive sampling. The collected data was analyzed through content analysis and descriptively presented.
The research findings revealed that Khorat Geopark's Potential as a World Heritage Tourism Destination in Thailand based on the 10As framework of tourism product components. Khorat Geopark exhibits strong potential in the following areas Attractions, Accessibility, Amenities, Accommodations, Activities, Ancillary services, Awareness, Appearance, Assurance and Appreciation. 2) The Geopark stands out for its geological attractions, which are the most prominent. These are followed by cultural and historical attractions and ecological tourism sites. 3) Management and Development of Tourism Potential has been developed in the following aspects: Economic & Revenue Generation, Social & Cultural Dimensions, Environmental & Natural Aspects and Infrastructure Development. 4) The Geopark has implemented policies to promote cooperation and develop tourism in conjunction with other tourist destinations.
