Abstract

This research article aims to: 1) study and analyze the development of essential skills for the future of monks in Kanchanaburi province; 2) develop these essential skills to integrate learning and the development of a Buddhist way of life; and 3) strengthen networks that support the development of essential skills for the future of monks in Kanchanaburi. The study was conducted using a future research approach, specifically the Ethnographic Delphi Future Research (EDFR) technique. Theoretical frameworks include concepts related to future skills, integrated learning management, the development of a Buddhist way of life, and living according to Buddhist teachings. The sample group consists of senior executives and experts, totaling 20 participants, selected through purposive sampling. Two main research instruments were used: 1) semi-structured interviews and 2) questionnaires. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The findings are as follows:

  1. The development of essential skills for the future of monks in Kanchanaburi province identified four key skill areas as significant for monks: 1) Intellectual skills, such as critical thinking and problem-solving; 2) Emotional and social skills, emphasizing cooperation, adaptability, and empathy; 3) Technological and scientific skills, for the dissemination of Buddhist teachings through online media and effective activity management; and 4) Knowledge-based skills, focusing on lifelong learning for sustainable self and community development.
  2. The essential skills for monks to integrate learning and the development of a Buddhist way of life were found to consist of four main components: 1) Intellectual skills, including critical thinking and thoughtful decision-making; 2) Emotional and social skills, such as teamwork, cultural understanding, and communication; 3) Technological and scientific skills, for leveraging online platforms to disseminate Buddhist teachings; and 4) Knowledge-based skills, such as integrating Buddhist principles into daily life and developing relevant knowledge for practice and teaching of Dhamma.
  3. The strengthening of networks to promote the development of essential skills for the future of monks in Kanchanaburi province revealed that these networks play a crucial role in supporting all four skill areas: intellectual, emotional and social, technological and scientific, and knowledge-based skills. This is achieved through collaboration with governmental bodies, organizations, and communities to create networks that enhance the development of monks in the dissemination of Buddhism, training activities, knowledge exchange, and systematic planning of activities to promote understanding and practice.
