Abstract

The rapid expansion of platform work has brought attention from researchers and policymakers across various fields in many countries. Health and safety issues regarding platform work are a prominent topic in the field of labor research. Occupational health and safety (OHS) has long been recognized and established as a norm in labor regulations in the European Union and the United States. Previous studies have provided a preliminary understanding of the impacts of platform work on OHS, and have identified and clarified the problems that derive from platform work but there is still a wide gap in knowledge in this regard. This article begins by discussing the foreign situations and backgrounds of OHS, as well as the impacts of platform work on OHS, and then discusses the situation in Thailand. The article shows that the research on platform work in Thailand is still in its early stages, with particular shortages on OHS-related issues. As platform work is increasingly growing, especially in the transportation sector, research on platform work and OHS in this sector is urgently needed to provide proper labor regulations.
