Abstract


            The study aimed to 1) survey canal tourism resources in the northeastern region in Thailand, 2) analyze and assess the potential of canal tourist attractions in the region, and, 3) synthesize guidelines for canal tourism potential development in the region. The concepts applied in this research was the 6As Tourism Components:Attractions, Accessibilities, Amenities, Accommodations, Activities and Ancillary Services. This mix-method research was conducted by studying concepts, theories and reviewing related literature. In addition, the data was collected from an on-site research approach using a survey, an interview of 60 key informants, evaluation and observation forms in 15 tourism community areas of 2 rivers, namely, Chi and Mun. The samples in this study consisted of tourism community leaders and members, and, tourism Entrepreneur Group Government officials. The research findings were as follows:


1) According to the survey of canal tourism resources in the northeastern region, most of the tourism resources are historical and cultural sites. Moreover, there are 2 river resources, Mun and Chi related to tourism. 2) The analysis and assessment of the potential of 15 canal tourist attractions in the northeastern region revealed that two tourism communities passed the assessment. These two communities include Ban Bung Sip Si Community, Kaset Sombun District, Chaiyaphum Province, and Ban Wan Community, Nam Kham Sub-district Municipality, Mueang District, Sisaket Province. 3) The guidelines for canal tourism potential development in the northeastern region consist of human development, tourist attraction development, tourism standard creation, and awareness creation on tourist attractions.
