Main Article Content
Abstract
The study investigated English skills that are necessary and problematic when working in hotel and tourism industries in terms of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The data were analyzed quantitatively from ten researches. The result showed that the most needed for listening skills was understanding what customers want. The most important skill for speaking was providing and explaining information about rooms, facilities, and services. Moreover, the highest rank of needed reading skills was reading emails, and writing emails was the highest rank of needed writing skills. At last, understanding what customers want was the most problematic ability in listening skills. The findings can be information for people who are interested in working in hotel and tourism industries and can be a useful guideline to develop training programs about four English language skills in hotel and tourism industries.
