A Study of Activities for Tourist Route Development by Creative Community-based Tourism in Khao Kram District, Krabi Province

This research studies potential activities in order to create a tourism route managed by creative community-based tourism in Khao Kram sub-district, Mueang District, Krabi Province. This study aims to survey and compile all data about activities within the beach area. The determined activities, afterward, might lead to the development of a tourism route in the area under study. The action research was applied to this study. The scope of this research is Khao Kram sub-district, Mueang District, Krabi Province. The data were collected from 25 people using a convenience sampling method, comprising of 4 Khaokram community leaders, 8 representatives from entrepreneur sector in Khao Kram Sub-districts, 3 representatives from local administrative organizations and other 10 tourists who joined the trial trip. The data collection tool was a semi-structured interview. The collected data was analyzed using content analysis according to 5A theory. Results show that the activities in tourist attractions have high potential to be developed and added into a new route of Khao Khram sub-district. Those feasible activities can be divided into 8 main activities 1) bamboo basket weaving 2) wooden sea animal keychain making 3) natural honey tasting and hollow bee keeping 4) local roti dessert making 5) kayaking at Khao Ka Rot 6) exploring plants and mangrove forests at Tha Pom Khlong Song Nam. 7) visiting dams and swamp forests at Khao Khom Dam 8) exploring stalagmite caves and natural reservoirs at Wang Nam Khiao 9) Making coconut macaroon from local rice 10) making batik fabric in which tourists can closely participate in every process and 11) visiting an ancient house. All of activities emphasize tourists’ close participation with local community. Based on the results of activity analysis, a network between activities in each village was established. There are 3 villages, namely Village No. 1 Ban Thung Village, Village No. 2 Nong Chik Village, Village No. 3 Ban Nai, and Village No. 6 Khao Khom used as a new route for a 1-day trip for tourists who are interested in community-based tourism. This research report can be used further to develop new tourist routes. These feasible activities can add value to tourist resources in the community. They also can be used to promote local wisdom to both local and visiting tourists.The activities could also bring about new careers and income distribution to the people residing in the Khaokram community.
