The Teaching and Learning of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in the 21st Century

Abstract
English for Specific Purposes (ESP) should mainly focus on
learning goals of learners. In general, the learners want to study ESP
according to their professional objectives. In addition, topic and
content of ESP are subject to the scope that the learners want to study
and are useful to the professions. Meanwhile, the 21st century learning
emphasizes learners’ skills and competencies rather than content
knowledge. Therefore, it is necessary that the ESP teaching and learning
integrates the content of each subject with the 21st century skills that
the learners should have. The teacher, as a learning designer, must
creatively select crucial content that improve learners’ competence.
This article discusses and offer how to design and manage ESP teaching
and learning in the 21st century.
