Guidelines for Conserving and Restoring Local Wisdom of Ram Trot Traditional Dance Performance of Sisaket Province

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to investigate the background
of Ram Trot traditional dance performance in Sisaket Province, to
analyze related problems, and to propose the guidelines for conserving
and restoring local wisdom of Ram Trot traditional dance performance
in Sisaket Province. This study was a qualitative research. The researcher
collected field data. Data were collected by using an interview and an
observation. The results of this study indicated that there were many
related factors, including language limitations of the audience, changing
perspective of the audience, inheritance and few inheritors, the effects
of globalization and technological progress, and lack of support from
government agencies. Ram Trot traditional dance performance is
considered a great cultural heritage of Sisaket people. This dance
performance reflects local traditions and culture, and sustains the
audience’s soul. In other words, Ram Trot is local wisdom of the
ancestors created for entertaining while giving wisdom words and moral
thoughts and reflects lifestyle of local people in Sisaket Province.
Therefore, Ram Trot should be appreciated and involving people
including actors/actresses, local people, private organizations,
government agencies should cooperate to conserve and restore this
dance performance. A campaign and public relations should be held to
enhance correct attitudes and awareness of Ram Trot of local people to
conserve and sustain this valuable local wisdom of cultural heritage.
