มุมมองของการจัดการห้องสมุดเที่ยงคืนของมหาวิทยาลัยในประเทศไทย

วัตถุประสงค์: 1) สำรวจเวลาเปิด-ปิดห้องสมุดของทุกมหาวิทยาลัยในประเทศไทย เพื่อทำความเข้าใจลักษณะทำการระหว่างภาคการศึกษา 2559 และ 2561 2) ทำความเข้าใจลักษณะของห้องสมุดตอนเที่ยงคืน
และห้องสมุดที่เปิดเกินเวลาทำการปกติ และ 3) สำรวจการจัดการด้านและปัญหาที่เกี่ยวข้องของมหาวิทยาลัยวิจัยแห่งชาติทั้ง 9 แห่ง (NRU)
วิธีการศึกษา: ใช้การวิเคราะห์เชิงปริมาณในการวิจัยทั้งสามขั้นตอนโดย 1) รวบรวมข้อมูลผ่านเว็บไซต์และการโทรศัพท์ของเวลาเปิดทำการห้องสมุดของห้องสมุดของมหาวิทยาลัยทุกแห่งในปี 2559
2) สร้างแบบสอบถามโดยสำรวจมหาวิทยาลัยวิจัย (NRU) ทั้งเก้าสถาบันเกี่ยวกับการจัดการห้องสมุด นอกเวลาทำการ และ 3) ทบทวน – ตรวจสอบเวลาเปิดทำการของห้องสมุดมหาวิทยาลัยในปี 2561
ข้อค้นพบ: ห้องสมุดของกลุ่มมหาวิทยาลัยในกำกับมีเวลาทำการเฉลี่ยยาวที่สุดต่อสัปดาห์ ซึ่งห้องสมุด มหาวิทยาลัยในกำกับ มหาวิทยาลัยวิจัยทั้งหมดจัดให้มีห้องสมุดเที่ยงคืน และปัญหาการทิ้งเศษอาหารเป็นปัญหาที่พบบ่อยที่สุดของการจัดบริการห้องสมุดเที่ยงคืน และห้องสมุดทุกแห่งจัดให้พนักงานประจำทำงาน ในช่วงล่วงเวลา ทำให้พบว่าพนักงานในห้องสมุดบางแห่งประสบปัญหาความเหนื่อยล้าในการทำงานห้องสมุดเที่ยงคืนและความยากลำบากในการหาพนักงานมาทำงานในช่วงล่วงเวลา การจัดการปัญหาด้านความปลอดภัยทั้งคนและอุปกรณ์ต่าง ๆ นอกจากนี้ ห้องสมุดเที่ยงคืนหลายแห่งสะท้อนถึงปัญหางบประมาณเพื่อขยายเวลาห้องสมุด
การประยุกต์ใช้จากการศึกษานี้: งานวิจัยชิ้นนี้แสดงให้เห็นว่าแม้ในปัจจุบันเป็นยุคที่สามารถเข้าถึงข้อมูลของห้องสมุดจากสื่ออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ แต่พื้นที่และบริการห้องสมุดทางกายภาพยังคงมีความสำคัญ มหาวิทยาลัยชั้นนำ รวมทั้งมหาวิทยาลัยวิจัยทั้งหมดและมหาวิทยาลัยในกำกับบางแห่ง จัดให้มีเวลาทำการห้องสมุดยาวนานกว่ามหาวิทยาลัยในกลุ่มอื่น ๆ แม้จะมีปัญหาเกิดขึ้นมากมาย หากประโยชน์ที่ได้รับ ได้แก่ การเพิ่มพูนสภาพแวดล้อมของการเรียนรู้ เพิ่มชื่อเสียงของมหาวิทยาลัย เพิ่มผลสัมฤทธิ์การเรียนรู้ของนักศึกษา เพิ่มความพึงพอใจของคณาจารย์ ผู้บริหาร และนักศึกษา ซึ่งเป็นสิ่งที่คุ้มค่ากับการลงทุน
