Knowledge Management to Create a Lifelong Learning Community of Ban Nong Lom, Mueang District, Lamphun Province

Purpose: To study the community environment of Ban Nong Lom, Mueang District, Lamphun Province, and to design a knowledge management system to create a lifelong learning community.
Methodology: This study employed a qualitative research approach. The key informants were residents of the Ban Nong Lom community in Sri Bua Ban Subdistrict, Lamphun Province, who participated in in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. Using purposive sampling, a total of 30 participants were selected, including 5 monks, 15 elderly residents, and 10 youth. Data triangulation was applied to enhance the accuracy and credibility of the research findings.
Findings: The Ban Nong Lom community has accumulated knowledge over a long period in various areas, including: 1) indigenous knowledge in agroecology and local resources; 2) indigenous knowledge in community management and social capital; 3) cultural heritage; and 4) vocational skills and economic adaptation. The knowledge management system for creating a lifelong learning community in Ban Nong Lom community has four main components: (1) identifying knowledge from diverse sources using multiple methods and utilizing technology to record that knowledge; (2) a systematic knowledge management process involving processing, filtering, and organizing knowledge into a database, knowledge repository, or online platform that is easily accessible and applicable; (3) effective knowledge sharing and exchange by fostering a culture of sharing thru online media and discussion boards; and (4) lifelong learning by applying knowledge for practical benefit to enable livelihood and self-development that can connect to career advancement pathways.
Applications of this study: The knowledge management system for creating a lifelong learning community in Ban Nong Lom is a guideline for community knowledge management. Relevant stakeholders, such as temples, schools, local administrative organizations, and provincial cultural departments, have raised awareness of the importance of community knowledge and can implement this system to create a lifelong learning community.
