Sinuan: -from Na Phat Repertoire to the Song for Guru Worshiping of Ramwong Yonyuk Performance

Abstract

This paper is a part of the Ph.D. thesis conducted as Rumwong Yonyook: a Thai Musical Entertainment Culture and a Socio-Consuming Change Condition, which focused on the musical culture and its history. However, this article focused on the Sinuan as the significant song for Guru worshiping of Rumwong Yonyuk troupe in Phetchaburi province. The content contributed from data analysis of the fieldwork, interviews, observation, and related documentaries. It provided and explored the brief history of the Sinuan, as a Na Phat repertoire and its transformation into a space of beliefs, traditional practices, meaning, and values of the Rumwong Yonyuk troupe's members in the present. It contained seven sub-topics, namely the cultural interaction and musical adaptation, Rumwong Yonyuk history, Wai Khru ritual process, Sinuan song characteristics, popularity of Rumwong Yonyuk and Wai Khru beliefs, form and new appropriation, and a different dimension of Sinuan song and Rumwong song style.
