Knowledge Dissemination to Improve the Quality of Life for the Elderly by Using Information Technology

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to develop the knowledge dissemination system on the elderly’s quality of life development by using information technology and 2) to evaluate the efficiency of the system. The research area was Samet sub-district, Muang district, Buriram province. The research procedure was divided into 2 phases: Phase 1, the system was developed by using the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).  The needs of 5 key informants were examined through an in-depth interview. The key informants were selected by using a purposive sampling method. The tools used in the system development included pHp, MySQL and Edit Plus. And Phase 2, the efficiency of the system was evaluated by utilizing sets of questionnaire with a reliability of 0.82. Twenty participants from the elderly and the general public in Samet sub-district were used as a sample group of the study obtained by using a simple random method. Statistics used in data analysis were mean and Standard Deviation. The results revealed that in terms of the needs on the operational system, the users had a high satisfaction level in overall aspect (4.15). As for the system utilization, the users had a high satisfaction level in overall aspect (4.35).
