Abstract

This study on Retro-style Klon Lam was qualitative research with a case study: Mo Lam
Sumontha Thatthong's data analysis was based on music anthropology. Fieldwork and
documentary studies were employed. The objectives of this study were to examine the lam
verses that won in the retro Mo Lam Klon competition. The competition was aimed to win
the royal prize from Her granddaughter, His Royal Highness Athityathornkitikhun, Northeastern
Competition level, General public on March 11, 2016, which was organized by Wat Non
Sawang, Mak Ya Subdistrict, Nong Wua So District, Udon Thani Provincial Office, Udon Thani
Provincial Cultural Office, and Udon Thani Rajabhat University. The results suggested that six
poems were submitted for consideration. Male Mo Lam recited three poems: 1) a poem with
a hope for performance success that was dedicated to teachers. The tune was brief with an
Ubon accent. The dance was performed while holding hands in a standing position. 2) A poem
in His Majesty's honor in accordance with the information on Her Royal Highness Princess Maha
Chakri Sirindhorn's royal obligations, The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Her Royal Highness
The tune was lengthy with an Ubon accent. The arms and body moved to create the dance
style. 3) Toei Phra Khun Mae, its content was about the biological mother's grace. It was
performed with an Ubon accent and a lengthy tail. The dance was performed in a flirtatious
between-pairs way. The female Mo Lam performed three poems including: 1) a poem for
instructors that asked for prayers for a successful performance. The tune was brief and with a
little Ubon touch. The dance was performed while standing and holding hands. 2) Klon Hua
Muaeng and relics. Its content was related to Buddhism and had a lengthy stream melody
with a hint of Ubon accent, and the dance was drawn out with the arms. And 3) Klon Durn
Dong included information regarding the Lam's voyage. The melody was short and had a little
Ubon touch
