Buddhism Moral Code for Preventing and Solving Bullying Problems

Abstract

          This qualitative and documentary research, aimed to (1) explored bullying in The Tipitaka, and (2) analyze The Buddhism Moral Code that can be adopted to prevent and solve bullying problems. Sources of this study were from both primary and secondary sources; the former included The Tipitaka, Atthakatha (commentaries), Tika (sub-commentaries), and Anutika (sub-sub commentaries); the latter included textbooks, documents, and other related research papers.

          Findings are as follows: (1) There were many bullying cases found in The Tipitaka: at least 17 cases in The Vinaya Pitaka and 10 cases in The Sutta Pitaka. (2) The Buddhism Moral Code for preventing and solving bullying problems for the ones who commit bullying are kindliness (Metta) and Right Speech (Sammavaca); for the ones who are bullied are Forbearance (Khanti) and Forgiveness (Abhayadana).
