Creative Dramatic Arts Performance of Yad Dod Raman Ban Bang Lamphu

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the history of and how to weave the breast cloth, or sabai of Mon ethnicity at Ban Bang Lamphu, Bang Krok subdistrict, Ban Laem district, Phetchaburi, and 2) to create the performance of "Yad Dod Raman Ban Bang Lamphu." This research was honored by Dr.Thitiya Poonpetch who gave information about the Sabai Mon cloth and the history of the Mon community at Ban Bang Lamphu including the method of weaving the Sabai Mon cloth with a unique pattern. The results of the research showed that 1) Phetchaburi has 2 groups of Mon. The Mon people of Ban Bang Lamphu have created their own identity through the sabai cloth by creating patterns such as plumeria, Leelawadee, which is the provincial flower, and Lamphu pattern, which is the community flower. Sabai embroidering starts from cutting specific size of fabric.  The average width is about 6 inches, the length is 1.5-2 meters. Then the borders and patterns are drawn on the fabric follow by using colored thread to embroider down the drawn pattern. 2) The research team wanted to present a creative dance related to the Mon of Ban Bang Lamphu. Therefore, the Sabai Mon of Ban Bang Lamphu is chosen to be a part of the dance by presenting plumeria and Lamphu flowers as part of the Sabai pattern and the fabric pattern drawing, Sabai embroidering as well as the way of life of the Mon people of Ban Bang Lamphu to create such a performance. The dance included the combination of classical Thai dancing style of and the style of Mon dance styles with the imitation movement of nature. In addition, new songs have been created by combining the styles of Thai and Mon and international instruments together for the performance music. The dance has 3 parts: 1) Mon dressing style, 2) Mon Sabai embroidering and 3) how to use Sabai.
