Abstract

This research aims to: (1) study the democratic leadership priority needs of pre-service teachers, (2) investigate the priority needs for knowledge management under the Five Disciplines, and (3) examine the relationship between democratic leadership and knowledge management based on the Five Disciplines. The sample consisted of 99 second-year pre-service teachers from the Faculty of Education at Nakhon Phanom University, Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University and the School of Education at Walailak University, obtained through simple random sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, the Modified Priority Needs Index (PNIModified) and Pearson Correlation Coefficient.

The research findings were as follows:

  1. The assessment of democratic leadership needs indicated a moderate priority for development (PNIModified = 0.203).

  2. Regarding the five disciplines in a learning society, pre-service teachers showed an overall need for development. When prioritized using the Priority Needs Index (PNI), values ranged from 0.1 to 0.2. The development priorities were ranked as follows: Mental Models (PNI=0.176), Personal Mastery (PNI=0.173), Team Learning (PNI=0.164), Shared Vision (PNI=0.158), and Systems Thinking (PNI=0.157), respectively.

  3. The correlation analysis between democratic leadership and the five disciplines of knowledge management revealed a high positive correlation (r ) in two areas: Mental Models (rx2y = 745) and Team Learning (rx4y = 0.708). A moderate correlation (0.31 -0.70) was found in three areas: Shared Vision (rx3y = 0.695), Systems Thinking (rx5y = 0.691)), and Personal Mastery (rx1y= 0.675) respectively.
