Satisfaction of High School Students to Prommanusorn School Library, Phetchaburi Province

Abstract

         This research aimed to examine the level of satisfaction of high school students to the library at Prommanusorn School, Phetchaburi Province, and to propose guidelines for its development. A validated questionnaire was used to collect data from 329 high school students at        Prommanusorn School, Phetchaburi Province. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Hypotheses were tested using t-test and one-way ANOVA. For statistically significant differences, pairwise differences were analyzed using the LSD method, with a statistical significance level set at .05.

         The results of the research found that: 1) Students were highly satisfied to Prommanusorn School library, Phetchaburi Province. When considering each aspect and ranking from highest to lowest, students were highly satisfied in the term of the services, environment, information resources, and personnel; and moderately satisfied in term of the facilities, respectively. The research hypotheses tested found that (1) students in different grades showed similar overall satisfaction to the library, including the environment, services, information resources, staff, and facilities. However, when considering each item, it was found that students in different grades had different satisfaction to the library in four areas: computer services for research, easy and quick book retrieval on shelves, appropriate borrowing and return periods, and convenience in accessing the library. (2) Students in different programs showed similar overall satisfaction to the library, including environment, services, information resources, personnel, and facilities. However, when considering each item, it was found that students in different programs have different satisfaction to the library in 4 areas: modern library regulations, modern journals, modern e-books, and sufficient quantity of novels. 2) Guidelines for development of Prommanusorn School library, Phetchaburi Province are as follows: (1) Environment: The library space should be organized in proportion, incorporating the concept of a learning space into consideration. (2) Service: training should be provided for knowledge and experience in arranging books on shelves for staff before they begin work. Furthermore, appropriate educational services for students in each class should be provided, enabling them to easily and quickly locate books on shelves. Furthermore, library access regulations should be established to ensure they are up-to-date and appropriate for students in each learning plan. (3) Information resources: Up-to-date information resources should be provided, and new information resources should be publicized, including how to use the services, especially electronic book information resources. (4) Personnel: Service personnel should improve the service attitudes of service providers, particularly communication and service-oriented attitudes. (5) Facilities: Sufficient reading areas should be provided for students and teachers, especially during lunch breaks when many students use the services, based on the minimum criteria specified in the school library standards.
