The Learning Management of the STAR Strategy Combined with the Grouping Technique to Develop Problem Solving Ability in Mathematics for Secondary 1 (Grade 7) Students

Abstract
This research aimed to 1) compare the problem solving ability in mathematics of the Secondary 1 (Grade 7) students before and after studying through the traditional learning management, 2) compare the problem solving ability in mathematics of the Secondary 1 (Grade 7) students before and after studying through the STAR strategy combined with grouping technique, and 3) compare the problem solving ability in mathematics of the Secondary 1 (Grade 7) students studying through the traditional learning management and the STAR strategy combined with grouping technique. Research sample was 60, selected by cluster sampling, of the Secondary 1 (Grade 7) students studying at the Thanyaburi School, Pathum Thani province. Research instruments included 1) traditional learning management lesson plans, the STAR strategy combined with grouping technique lesson plans, and 3) an achievement test on problem solving ability in mathematics. Mean, Standard Deviation, and t-test were used for data analysis.
The research findings showed that 1) the problem solving ability in mathematics of the Secondary 1 (Grade 7) students after studying through the traditional learning management was higher than the before studying statistically significant difference at 0.05 level, 2) the problem solving ability in mathematics of the Secondary 1 (Grade 7) students after studying through the STAR strategy combined with grouping technique was higher than the before studying statistically significant at 0.05 level, and 3) a comparison on problem solving ability in mathematics of the Secondary 1 (Grade 7) students studying through the STAR strategy combined with grouping technique was higher than the traditional learning management statistically significant at 0.05 level.
