Competency-Based Learning Management with SQ6R Reading Technique to Develop Critical Reading Skill for Students of the Faculty of Education of Phetchabun Rajabhat University

Abstract

      The objectives of this research were to create and find the effectiveness of a competency-based learning management with SQ6R reading technique to develop critical reading skill to achieve the efficient criterion of E1/E2 = 80/80, and to compare the score of the pre-test and post-test of critical reading skills studying with competency-based learning management with SQ6R reading technique to develop critical reading skill. The participants were students of the Thai Language Program, Faculty of Education, Phetchabun Rajabhat University who registered for the course HSTH307 Reading, Thinking and Developing Life in the second semester of the academic year 2020, 28 students were enrolled using
purposive sampling. The research instruments consisted of competency-based learning management with SQ6R reading technique plan combined with SQ6R reading technique to develop critical reading skills, which was a learning management plan for the subject HSTH307, Reading, Thinking and Developing Life (TQF 3), consisted of 5 plans, 4 hours per learning plan and 40-item of critical reading skills test. The statistics used in the data analysis were mean () and standard deviation (S.D.).
The results of the study found that the suitability of the competency-based learning management with SQ6R
reading technique to develop critical reading skill for students of the faculty of education of Phetchabun Rajabhat
University was at the highest level ( = 4.70, S.D. = 0.35) and the effectiveness of the competency-based learning
management with SQ6R reading technique to develop critical reading skill was 83.90/84.90, which was higher than the
80/80 threshold, and critical reading skills after studying with the competency-based learning management with SQ6R
reading technique were higher.
