Abstract

This research article aimed to 1) examine employers’ competency needs for students’ pre-internship preparation based on the integrated S/D/F/P competency framework, 2) compare differences in such needs across organizational characteristics, and 3) synthesize a systematic approach for enhancing student readiness prior to internship. A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was employed, supplemented by qualitative data from open-ended questions. The sample consisted of 146 establishments that had accepted students from the Faculty of Business Administration, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi for internship placement. The research instruments included a five-point rating-scale questionnaire based on the integrated S/D/F/P competency framework and the MoSCoW prioritization technique. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, group comparison analysis, and content analysis.

The findings revealed that: 1) employers’ competency needs based on the integrated S/D/F/P framework were at a high level overall, with Personal Attributes core (P_core) receiving the highest priority, followed by Social and Emotional Skills, while Digital Skills and Functional Skills also remained highly important; in addition, MoSCoW prioritization identified two clearly dominant Must-have competencies, namely Working with Others and Responsibility; 2) business type was not significantly associated with differences in overall competency needs, whereas organization size was significantly associated with differences in Social and Emotional Skills and Digital Skills; and 3) the RMUTT Pre-Internship Readiness Framework was synthesized as a systematic guideline for students’ pre-internship preparation, consisting of four developmental stages: Core Competency Building, Transition to Practice, Future Skill Integration, and Career Readiness and Mindset Development, to inform curriculum design, learning activities, assessment, and partnership development with industry.
