Abstract

This research article aimed to investigate the factors influencing the models of Buddhist education at Guangxiao Temple and specialized Buddhist education institutions in China, analyzing the role of Guangxiao Temple in promoting Buddhist education within the Chinese context, and comparing the educational management models between Guangxiao Temple and specialized institutions. Qualitative data were collected through interviews with 11 key informants. Data analysis was performed using content analysis.


The research findings revealed four main factors influencing Buddhist education models in this context: 1) institutional and curriculum factors, 2) personnel factors, 3) policy and socio-cultural context, and 4) technology and individual factors. Guangxiao Temple played a crucial role in promoting Buddhist education in China by serving as a center for Buddhist studies, a place for spiritual practice, and a hub for disseminating Buddhist teachings. The comparison between the Buddhist education models at Guangxiao Temple and specialized institutions highlighted several differences. These included their roles and management styles, curriculum content and structure, teaching methodologies, and learning environments.
