EFFECT OF PRE - OPERATIVE VISITING ON THE ANXIETY OF CESAREAN SECTIOIN RECIPIENTS, KOHSAMUI HOSPITAL

Abstract

This research aimed to study the effect of pre-operative visiting on the anxiety and satisfaction of cesarean section recipients by using quasi - experimental research by two groups pre - posttest design. The sample groups consisted of 80 Thai pregnant women, age 18 years and over, the doctor had planned elective cesarean section, came receive services at Koh Samui Hospital between January - February 2024, received anesthesia by general anesthesia or spinal block, no psychotic symptoms, and willing to cooperate in the study. They were selected by purposive sampling and divided into experimental group of 40 people received for structured pre-operative visit and control group of 40 people received pre-operative counseling visit at the operating room. Research instruments were questionnaire about anxiety and satisfaction with the pre-operative visit. Data analysis was performed by number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square test, and t - test. The research results found that a structured pre - operative visit made to reduce number of state anxiety and trait anxiety of cesarean section recipients and reduce more than receiving pre-operative advice at the operating room by statistically significant (p - value < 0.001), as well as overall satisfaction more than receiving preoperative advice at the operating room by statistically significant (p - value < 0.001). Therefore, should be conducted in a structured pre-operative visit to reduce anxiety for pregnant women who cesarean section recipients at Koh Samui Hospital and expand the results to other hospitals.
