THE PROMOTION OF CONSERVE ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES AT WIANG CHIANG SAEN DISTRIC CHIAG RAI PROVINCE WITH THE BUDDHIST INTEGRATION.

Abstract

This doctoral dissertation, entitled “A promotion of Conservation Archaeological Sites at Wiang Chiang SaenDistric Chiang Rai Province wiith the Buddhist Integration” has thre objective 1) to study concepts and theories related to promotion of archeological site conservation, 2) to study problems, objectives, and relevant Buddhadhamma topics associated with promotion of archeological site conservation in Wiang Chiang SaenDistric Chiang Rai Province, and 3) to propose a process for promoting archeological site conservation in Wiang Chiang SaenDistric Chiang Rai Province with Buddhist integration. This research employs documentary research and personal interview.

          The results showed that promotion of archeological sites conservation has threemain obstacles: personnel, budget, and management.Therelevant Buddhad hamma topics include aparihàniyadhamma 7 (conditions of welfare), sappurisa-dhamma (qualities of a good man), and padhana4 (effort). For e aparihàniyadhamm, it refers to one specific quality, “to honor and worship city and provincial shrines and pagodas and never to neglect to celebrate these places.” For sappurisa-dhamma, the relevant items include Dhammaññuta (understanding of self and values of history and archeological relicts), Parisaññuta (understanding of community and local cultures that reflect the root of the community). Finally, for padhana, the relevant items include Samvara-padhana (the effort to prevent possible damages), Pahana-padhana (the effort to eliminate the exisiting damages), Bhavana-padhana (the effort to develop a new way to conserve the sites), Anurakkhana-padhana (the effort to maintain the existing approaches to conservation).
