Abstract

This research aimed to examine the undergraduate students’ extent of foreign language learning anxiety in their first year at Bangkok University and investigate factors which might affect learning anxiety including gender and English language ability. The samples were 638 first-year students enrolling in EN002: English for Social Communication in the second semester of 2017 academic year. The instrument used to collect the data was a five-rating scale questionnaire of the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (Horwitz, Horwitz & Cope, 1986). Data were analyzed for mean, standard deviation, t-test and Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The findings revealed that the students had moderate level of learning anxiety, and female students had a higher level of anxiety than male students.
