Development of a Poverty Alleviation Model to Enhance Social Mobility in Mueang Lampang District, Lampang Province

Abstract

               The development of a poverty alleviation model to enhance poor households’ opportunities for social mobility in Mueang Lampang District, Lampang Province. The objective of this study was to develop a poverty alleviation model that enhances poor households’ opportunities for social mobility in Mueang Lampang District, Lampang Province. This qualitative research involved key informants, consisting of project researchers and representatives of project stakeholders from three subdistricts: Bo Haew, Pichai, and Ban Sadet, with five representatives from each subdistrict. Data were collected through focus group discussions, In-depth Interview and analyzed using content analysis to present findings in accordance with the research objectives. The findings revealed that the development and upgrading of poor households to enhance social mobility was implemented through two main processes. First, it was the transfer of key and relevant innovations to activities via a collaborative learning exchange with stakeholders, facilitated by experts; and the exchange of knowledge among network partners, enabling the development of innovations appropriately designed to the target groups. Second, the process involved knowledge sharing among target groups, stakeholders, and integrated network partners working in the area, emphasizing collaboration and active participation of the target groups to generate knowledge developed jointly by the target groups, network partners, and the research team. The outcomes of developing and upgrading the target households across the three subdistricts revealed the creation of new local innovations, including the appropriate application of knowledge-based innovations that can enhance social mobility of the target households, as well as the development of new social innovations that can improve the effectiveness of efforts promoting the target groups.
