Strengthening Participation in Sustainable Development of Water Resource Potential of Local Government Organizations and Communities in the Mae Klong Watershed Area of Kanchanaburi Province

Abstract

               Strengthening participation in sustainable water resource potential development of local administrative organizations and communities in the Mae Klong watershed area, Kanchanaburi Province aims to (1) implement measures to stimulate awareness of participation in the restoration and conservation of water resources of the community for local administrative organizations in the Mae Klong watershed area, Kanchanaburi Province, (2) to strengthen community participation in sustainable water resource potential development of local administrative organizations in the Mae Klong watershed area, Kanchanaburi Province. By using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) methods, the research population consisted of (1) executives and personnel of 10 local administrative organizations and (2) people and youth in the areas of all 10 local administrative organizations. The group process was used to implement measures to stimulate awareness and strengthen community participation, including data collection and analysis using classification and data comparison methods.

               The results of the study found that (1) Measures to stimulate awareness of participation in the restoration and conservation of water resources of the community for local administrative organizations in the Mae Klong watershed area, Kanchanaburi Province consists of 6 steps: Step 1: Measures to create leaders in water resource restoration and conservation; Step 2: Measures to create understanding among people in the community; Step 3: Measures to stimulate and motivate acceptance; Step 4: Measures to encourage driving and expanding results; Step 5: Measures to reinforce continuity in operations; Step 6: Measures to develop water resource potential for maximum benefit of the community. (2) Strengthening community participation in sustainable water resource potential development for local administrative organizations in the Mae Klong watershed area, Kanchanaburi Province, consists of 4 steps as follows: Step 1: Participation in water resource potential analysis; Step 2: Participation in selecting projects/ activities to develop water resource potential; Step 3: Participation in implementing projects/ activities to develop water resource potential; Step 4 : Participation in receiving benefits from water resource potential development.
