PRACHARAT DISCOURSE IN THAILAND POLITICAL CONTEXT

Abstract

           The purposes of this research are to study the meaning of “Pracharat” as the political discourse during the government period of General Prayut Chan-o-cha, including the political influence of “Pracharat” caused the change to political ideal of General Prayut Chan-o-cha era. This research were gathered data from the potential research through the study of government documents, television broadcast which government used to communicate with people and journal analysis papers.
            From the research, General Prayut Chan-o-cha widens meaning of “Pracahrat” to the cooperation of every unit, the important of unite. Moreover, they tied “Pracharat” to groups of word that related to the Royal Institution. This can be considered as to be loyal and respect the Royal Institution. It can be said that this tie caused disagreement from the past decades. However, the government also tied “Pracharat” to many projects either populism projects, royal projects or previous government’s projects which make the purpose of using the word of civil state unclear. It is likely to build the consciousness about political advantage of the politic group that support the government because the occurrence of “Pracharat” in this government came with politic group that later formed to be the Pra Cha Rat party.
