Elderly Abuse: Causes and Determinants in Rural Naogan District of Bangladesh

Abstract

The elderly population is rapidly increasing all over the world. The older population is thus accompanied with many unwanted aspects of life and is commonly facing the problems of abuse. Present study aims to delineate
this issue across different socio-economic, educational and health condition of the elderly. This article has been prepared based on findings of interviews conducted with 743 elderly from rural areas under Naogaon district, Bangladesh. The study reveals that elderly persons who were unhealthy, economically dependent, illiterate are significantly more like to face abuse. Findings need to be scientifically utilized in developing suitable programs addressing the case of elderly of the developing countries as well as Bangladesh.
