Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze and learn from case studies in five countries (United Kingdom, Australia, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Japan) during 2017-2021, in order to find a model approach to promote and develop media innovation in Thailand. The study found that these countries emphasized the role of media in addressing social issues and creating economic value, and as a result, they established national plans and provided funding to support media innovation. The development model has a comprehensive structure, starting with initial funding for technology development trials, new formats of storytelling helping media embrace its evolving role in society, developing innovative media entrepreneurs, and creating a system to find markets both domestically and internationally to further commercialize innovation. The systematic promotion of media innovation creates technological change, issues diversity and storytelling styles, media role as social innovation, and enhancing the efficiency of work processes in media organizations. Innovation can be used for social benefits, generate commercial income, and promote the emergence of innovation-led media entrepreneurs. Thus, in order to support media innovation in Thailand, development policies should focus on creating an ecosystem that includes grants, incubation of innovative entrepreneurs, media and technology development experiments, and creating markets and business model opportunities. This is a complete cycle of processes to promote development.
