Purchase of Textiles in a Hospital for Cost Improvements Using Linear Programming
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study develops a linear programming model for textile purchasing in hospitals. The aim is to identify the textile purchasing option that yields lower total costs than those obtained from current purchasing practices while still meeting demand. The model covers three textile purchasing options: insourcing, outsourcing, and a combination of both, which represents a gap in current studies. The sample of textile items was defined using ABC analysis. Textile items in category A that could be purchased through both insourcing and outsourcing were selected. The results show that the sampled textile items should be purchased through either insourcing or outsourcing. None of them should be purchased through a combined option. The model can reduce purchasing costs compared with current costs by approximately 0.78%–16.56%. The Excel Solver tool can be used as a decision-making tool for identifying textile purchasing options according to budget availability and relevant constraints. The model can also be applied to the purchase of other hospital items, such as disposable items, and can support purchasing decisions in both public and private hospitals, especially organizations with limited budgets.
