THE TRADITIONAL VOCAL COMPOSITION STYLE OF KRUSOMCHAI TABPORN

Abstract

The study titled “The Traditional Vocal Composition Style of Kru Somchai Tabporn” aimed 1) to study the history and works of Kru Somchai Tabporn, 2) to study the concept of vocal composition as employed by Kru Somchai Tabporn, and 3) to analyze the traditional vocal composition style of Kru Somchai Tabporn. Data were collected from interviews with Kru Somchai Tabporn and persons involved in the performance of his compositions. This data was then synthesized and analyzed using relevant concepts and theories.

The findings revealed that Kru Somchai Tabporn was born on June 26, 2491, as the son of Mr. Chit and Mrs. Jue. Tabporn. He has eleven siblings. He was married to Mrs. Orathai Tabporn and he has three children. He has more than 60 years of experience in the Thai music industry. Kru Somchai Tubporn has many creative works, namely: 1) 68 vocal compositions, 2) 9 vocal compositions, 3) 61 vocal song compositions, 4) 68 soundbar recordings, and 5) 10 CD recordings. The concepts of the vocal compositions of Kru Somchai Thapporn were 1) Observation, experience, and principles of music and vocals; 2) Consideration of poetry, 3) Consultation and guidance from the experience and knowledge of Kru Seri Wangnaitham (National Artist), 4) Sensitivity to the accent and ethnicity of the characters, 5) Utilization of Thai international melody in developing a unique approach to vocal composition, 6) Incorporation of melodies to enhance singing, with the chorus primarily featuring petitions rather than extensive melodies. Additionally, accent tactics are employed to emphasize words and evoke emotion in the characters.
