Abstract

This article is purposely made to make one be aware of the importance of Vedanã and to make use of it for benefiting one’s life. It is said that Vedanã arises from Phassa and can be classified into 108 categories, but only three types of Vedanã are always mentioned, Sukha-vedanã (pleasant feeling), Dukkha-vedanã (painful feeling) and Upekkhã-vedanã (indifferent feeling). The Vedanã by nature occurs under the three common characteristics as were done by five aggregates of existence and it also help to separate our knowledge from the process of perception verifying its pure knowledge without craving, conceit and view; this is not the process leading to the round of rebirth or impure knowledge mixing up with craving, conceit and view belonging to the process of the round of rebirth. In the process of non-round of rebirth, the Vedanã is regarded as a small component conducive to having the perfect knowledge leading to right understanding and liberation. As regards the process of the round of rebirth, the Vedanã becomes the essential factor controlling the process of Dhamma leading to rebirth and endless suffering. Suffice it to say that one’s life is definitely determined by Vedanã and for Vedanã and then Vedanã is extremely important to one’s life. If Vedanã arises then one cannot rightly acts to such Vedanã, as a result, the impure knowledge would also arise creating the process of the round of rebirth leading to the endless suffering, but if one rightly acts to such Vedanã then one would gain the right knowledge which would lead to the non-round of rebirth and that will be benefiting one’s life bringing the extinction to the endless suffering.
