Abstract

This research aims to 1) study the tourism resources under the OTOP Nawatwithi Community Tourism Project to establish Uttaradit Province as a target tourist destination, and 2) examine the components of tourism under the OTOP Nawatwithi Community Tourism Project to support Uttaradit Province as a target tourist destination. This qualitative research employs an area-based survey approach, using concepts of tourism components, tourism resources, secondary city tourism, and the OTOP Nawatwithi Community Tourism Project as the research framework. The key informants, selected through purposive sampling, included 25 representatives from government agencies, private sectors, communities, and academics. The data collection tool used was in-depth interviews, and the data were analyzed using content analysis with descriptive narrative.

The research findings reveal that: 1) Uttaradit Province has the potential to become a secondary tourist city with diverse tourism resources that can be further developed. Tourism promotion can be implemented through the OTOP Nawatwithi Community Tourism Project in 9 districts and 28 villages. 2) The communities in Uttaradit Province possess high potential, uniqueness, and distinctiveness due to their location at the cultural crossroads of Lanna, Lan Xang, and Central Thai cultures. This results in a unique way of life with distinctive local products, including LongLin durians from Lap Lae, sweet Longkong and Langsat fruits, Tin Chok skirts, floral woven textiles, cashew nuts, Namphee steel swords, and bamboo products, which are available at stores throughout the city and all districts of Uttaradit Province.
