Abstract

This research article aims to: 1) study the current conditions and challenges in developing academic competencies through self-directed learning, 2) develop a model for enhancing academic competencies of physical education teachers using self-directed learning, and 3) evaluate the model for developing academic competencies through self-directed learning for physical education teachers in secondary schools in Phitsanulok Province. The research adopts a qualitative research approach and is conducted in schools under the Phitsanulok-Uttaradit Secondary Education Service Area Office, categorized by school size. Data were gathered from a purposively selected sample of 15 participants. Research tools included research interview guides. The findings reveal that physical education teachers currently lack academic skills and the initiative to seek learning resources to improve their competencies. The researcher developed an Academic Competency Development Model, known as the ASP Model, designed to guide physical education teachers in Phitsanulok secondary schools toward self-directed learning, enhancing their academic knowledge, and enabling them to independently seek learning resources. This model benefits the teaching and learning process by equipping teachers with knowledge and strategies that align with modern educational trends, ultimately leading to learning activities that keep pace with current changes.
