Abstract

The pandemic crisis of the novel coronavirus panic to the coronavirus pandemic and severity of the disease caused a high mortality rate of 6.8 percentage, especially the elderly, who were the most at risk group with a high chance of infection and death. The researcher has developed a new normal model. This research study aimed to develop a new normal model to prevent COVID-19 of elderly. The model development was composed of three phases. The first phase was concerned with a problem and needs of the elderly; divided into quantitative research, using the survey new normal questionnaires with the sampled 400 elderly, the qualitative research, the sampling group was a group of 15 participative networks using in-depth interviews. Using the obtained information as a base to develop a new normal model to prevent COVID-19. The second phase of model development: intervention of 40 experimental groups and 40 control groups.

The third phase evaluation a new normal model. The research result found that the sampled elderly were knowledge about COVID-19 had a moderate level. The new normal behavior, including hand washing behavior had a moderate level of practice, the behavior of wearing a mask the level of practice was a very good level, social distancing behavior and social responsibility behaviors have a good level of practice and applied in conjunction with the theory of social support, self-regulation theory, participation concept and a participatory planning process consisted of 4 elements. After using the model for four weeks and follow up 8 weeks, the elderly had knowledge of COVID-19, a new normal behavior consisted of hand washing behavior, wearing a mask of behavior, social distancing behavior and social responsibility behaviors higher than before using the model at significant level of 0.05
